FILIA GHI - Greece

FILIA GHI is dedicated to producing high-quality wines while respecting the land and adhering to sustainable practices. Situated in Thessaly, Greece, in a rural area rich in potential biomass, the company aims to explore renewable energy production through the use of agricultural residues. The site offers opportunities to utilise residual prunings sustainably from vineyards, olive trees, and almond trees.

In addition to its commitment to eco-friendly wine production, FILIA GHI collaborates with local cooperatives, creating opportunities to repurpose biomass from regional crops such as cotton and maize.

Current progress

Watch our video for an inside look at how our partners at INL developed smart sensors for biomass growth monitoring.

Follow their journey, from gathering essential environmental data to designing and deploying advanced sensor systems in the field.

Discover how the team integrates computer vision and artificial intelligence (AI) to analyse crop growth, segment vegetation, and calculate biomass levels in real-time.

In February 2025, our partners from INL, with the support of CERTH, successfully deployed two poles at the Greek pilot site. Each pole is equipped with state-of-the-art sensors and instruments, including two spectrometers, a camera, a soil moisture sensor, a weather station, a solar panel and battery system, and cloud-based connectivity via GSM. The data collected from these sensors is continuously transmitted to a dedicated digital platform, where AI algorithms and advanced image processing techniques analyse the information.

ECO FARM - Italy

ECO FARM aims to support local producers, with a particular focus on environmental sustainability and respect for nature. Located in Sicily, in an agricultural area with a high potential of biomass of different nature deriving from the cultivation of peaches, apricots, melons, table and must grapes, wheat, and olive oil to be exploited for the production of renewable energy.

Additionally, thanks to its location and the already developed network of farmers that provide agricultural products to be transformed into food, the company can also find other forms of biomass, such as poultry manure.

Current progress

In July 2025, our partners from INL deployed two multi-sensing poles at the Italian pilot site hosted by ECORFARM in Sicily. One pole is dedicated to the vineyard and the other to peach tree cultivation. Each unit integrates advanced instruments, including two spectrometers, a high-mounted camera, a soil moisture sensor, a light sensor, a weather station, and a solar-powered battery system with GSM connectivity. The collected data are transmitted every 15 minutes to a digital platform, where AI algorithms and image processing support continuous monitoring of crop biomass and estimation of agricultural waste.

Virtual replication

The digital replication will consider the specific environmental and economic conditions of several parts of Europe to analyse the possible implementation of the TIS. The Countries have been chosen from the network of collaborations the TEAPOTS’ partners have created as integral and active part of their local territories.
